Amazon Black Friday 2019: what deals to expect

When it comes to Black Friday, there is one undisputed king of the jungle (or should that be rainforest?). Over the last Black Friday period, Amazon took a 26 percent share of the total retail industry in the UK. That means over a quarter of the UK’s Black Friday shopping in 2018 was done on the giant online marketplace.

Amazon’s share was actually up 3 percent on the previous year, showing that their Black Friday sales are still growing. We don’t know if this trend will continue, but we are sure that Black Friday is a massive event for Amazon and that the company will be celebrating it in an equally massive way. In fact, Black Friday is an integral part of Amazon’s retail policy and their preparations for it take place year-round.

Which means: massive savings and deals for you.

When is Black Friday in 2019?

This year, Black Friday falls on Nov. 29. Cyber Monday, the other big sales date during the Black Friday period, is on Dec. 2. Since Amazon’s Black Friday sales often run across a couple of weeks, we expect them to start mid-November and finish in early December.

Best Amazon Black Friday Deals 2019

Amazon Black Friday 2019 Amazon device deals

If you’re hoping to pick up an Amazon device like a smart speaker, tablet, or smart TV stick, Black Friday is the time to strike. Amazon always celebrates by discounting their own devices and last year Amazon devices were three out of five of the site’s top-selling Black Friday products.

The all-new Echo Dot (3rd Gen) was the company’s second top-selling product, with almost 11 thousand purchases. Amazon slashed the price of their smart speaker in half, bringing it down from £49.99 to £24.99.

Next followed the Fire TV Stick, that was £15 off at £24.99, and the Echo (2nd Gen) that was down to £54.99 from £89.99. Making it into Amazon’s top 10 best-selling products at number eight was the Fire TV Stick 4K Ultra HD with all-new Alexa Voice Remote, which was £15 off at £34.99.

In case you’re wondering, Amazon’s top-selling Black Friday product was the SanDisk Ultra 128GB Memory Card, with over 17 thousand purchases and a price fall of over £20.

Other Amazon devices you could grab at a discounted rate included the Echo Spot (£89.99, was £119.99), Kindle Paperwhite (£89.99, was £119.99), Fire 7 tablet (£29.99, was £49.99) and Fire HD 10 tablet (£99.99, was £149.99).

You could also make a saving if you bought an Amazon device as part of a bundle with a variety of other gadgets. For instance, a Philips Hue White Bulb E27 with Echo Plus bundle was £109.99 (previously £139.99) and £169.99 with the Echo Show (previously £219.99). You could also buy Amazon smart speakers with Ring Video Doorbell devices, like the Amazon Echo Spot and Ring Video Doorbell Pro Kit for £228.99, instead of £238.99.

Amazon also ran big savings on their subscriptions: 50 percent off Audible for 4 months (£3.99/month instead of £7.99), 75 percent off a Kindle Unlimited Membership for 3 months (£1.99/month instead of £7.99), and 3 months of Amazon Music Unlimited for 99p (£23.97).

Amazon Black Friday 2019 TV deals

TVs are big-ticket items and they are always heavily discounted on Black Friday. If you need a new TV or are waiting to realise your full Ultra HD, 4K, wide-screen dream, there’s no better time to do it than Black Friday.

Last year you could pick up a state-of-the-art Philips 75-inch 4K Ultra HD Android Smart TV with HDR Plus and 3-sided Ambilight (2018 Model) at over £500 off for £1,999. The still impressively sized 65-inch model was over 25 percent off at £599, down from £800, while the 50-inch model was £399 down from £450.

The 65-inch wide-screen Hisense 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart TV (2018 Model) was only £569 down from £699. Big savings could be made on the Sony Bravia 55-inch Android 4K HDR TV (£639, was £1,199) with £560 off, and there was £500 off the Sony Bravia 49-inch Android 4K HDR TV (£599, was £1,099)

If you were after something more compact, there were great deals on the Sony Bravia 43-inch Android 4K HDR TV (£539, was £899) and Samsung UE40NU7120 40-inch 4K TV (£343.50, was £529.99).

Amazon Black Friday 2019 laptop deals

Laptops are another big tech investment you’ll want to wait until Black Friday to make. Although not every laptop will be discounted, if you’re flexible about the model or make you buy, you’re sure to pick up a bargain.

The well-reviewed Microsoft Surface Go is a portable tablet and laptop hybrid, and the 8GB RAM model could be bought at a £50 discount for £449.99. The 4GB RAM model was also £27 off at £353.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 14-inch Notebook was £60 off at £619.99, the Huawei MateBook X Pro 13.9-inch was £200 off at £1,299.99, and the ASUS ZenBook 13 13.3-inch was £200 off at £699.99.

Those looking for a laptop with a bit of oomph for gaming could get an Asus 15.6-inch gaming laptop for £1,049.99 (was £1,399.99), an Aorus X7 DT v8 17.3-inch gaming laptop for £2,549.99 (was £2,999), or the ACER Aspire 7 15.6-inch Gaming Notebook for £599.99 (was £749.99).

Amazon Black Friday 2019 gaming deals

Gaming can be an expensive pastime when you factor in the console, games, and accessories you need to purchase before you can get started. That’s why we recommend going all in on Black Friday when you can make a big saving on your setup.

The biggest way to save is on bundles. Last year, there was a huge discount on the Xbox One S bundle with Battlefield V, Fallout 76, and Spyro Reignited Trilogy (£199.99, was £329.99).

The latest Xbox, the Xbox One X 1TB, with in-demand games Fallout 76, Forza Horizon 4, and FIFA 19 was £130 off at £399.99. And the latest PlayStation, the PS4 Pro 1TB, with FIFA 19 and Fallout 76 was £50 off at £339. The Nintendo Switch, which usually costs £279, was £249.

There were also price reductions on must-have new releases like Red Dead Redemption 2.

Amazon Black Friday 2019 audio deals

Amazon offered discounts of up to 60 percent on speakers over the Black Friday period. There was up to £100 off SONOS speakers and up to 33 percent off microphones, too. Top brands were significantly reduced and we’re certain the same thing will happen this year.

Trendy Beats by Dre EP On-Ear Headphones were half price at £45 and Sony Wireless Noise-Cancelling Headphones were £70 off at £79.99.

The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay A1 Portable Bluetooth Speaker with Microphone was £94 off at £229, as were their Beoplay H5 Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds.

Amazon Black Friday 2019 other deals

There were discounts on smartphones, like £100 off the top-of-the-range Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus (£769, was £869) and £100 off the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (£799, was £899).

Amazon slashed prices on appliances, like the Nespresso Lattissima Touch Automatic Coffee Machine (£149, was £279.99). Hardcore coffee fans could make a huge £300 saving on the Krups Evidence EA893840 Automatic Espresso Bean to Cup Coffee Machine, down to £599.99.

Health and beauty-wise, there was up to 40 percent off best-selling luxury fragrances and 35 percent off top protein powder and supplement brands. One incredible saving was on the Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4300 Electric Toothbrush with travel case, that was £55 down from £179.99.

How to get the best deals from Amazon on Black Friday 2019

If you’re serious about making the most of Amazon’s Black Friday sales, it’s worth signing up to be an Amazon Prime member. Prime members get early and exclusive access to offers like Lightning Deals, which only last for a matter of minutes or hours, and Prime-only deals.

An Amazon Prime membership comes with lots of perks, like free delivery (including Same-Day Delivery), exclusive savings, thousands of films and TV shows on Prime Video, eBooks, magazines and comics with Prime Reading, and music streaming with Prime Music. It costs £7.99 a month but you can sign up to a 30-day free trial if you need to test the waters. Students can get a free six-month trial and an Amazon Prime Student membership costs just £3.99 a month.

As well as Lightning Deals, Amazon runs Deals of the Day throughout the Black Friday period. These are exactly as they say on the tin – special offers that expire after 24 hours.

Unless you see a Lightning Deal or Deal of the Day offer on a product you want in the run up to Black Friday itself, we recommend holding your horses until Nov. 29 to buy that long-hankered for item, as this is when the big discounts really come out to play.
