8 things you can do instead of watch Milo beg for attention

Milo Yiannopoulos just wants you to listen to him — somewhere, anywhere.

You were supposed to listen to him at what would no doubt have been an eyebrow-raising speech at this week’s Conservative Political Action Conference. You were supposed to listen to him through his book, Dangerous. But both the speech and the book were canceled after a video leaked over the long weekend showed Yiannopoulos — a Breitbart editor already known for tirades against women, black people, Muslims, transgender people, and others — seemed to give a thumbs up to pedophilia and pederasty.

Now he wants you to listen to him at a press conference he announced for Tuesday. He will explain his comments, he said. Who knows if he decides to go ahead with a statement. It doesn’t matter. Here are 8 things you could do instead of watching.

What are you doing right now?

Keep doing that.

Buy Roxane Gay’s books

Gay, author of several titles both published and forthcoming, pulled How to be Heard from publisher Simon & Schuster after the company signed a $250,000 deal for Yiannopoulos’s title. Gay said she is not returning to Simon & Schuster despite the reversal of the publishing house’s decision.

Gay’s book was slated for publication in early 2018. In the meantime, you can buy her already published works, such as An Untamed State and Bad Feminist

Nothing

Don’t do stuff.

Donate to organizations fighting for victims of child sexual abuse

Several organizations dedicate their time to advocating for victims of child abuse and child sexual abuse. Here is a small selection, below:

1. Joyful Heart Foundation

2. Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network

3. Childhelp

Maybe you’re already doing this.

Read The Boston Globe’s investigation into child sexual abuse by Catholic priests.

The newspaper won a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of child sexual abuse by Catholic priests, and the subsequent cover-up. You can begin reading stories about the investigation here

Nap

Seek out the perfect hiding spot in your office (or maybe you’re at home!), steal someone’s blanket or oversized coat, make sure the spot is equipped with pillows, and sleep.

Watch ‘Spotlight’

Spotlight, last year’s Oscar winner for best picture, is a movie about the Globe investigation mentioned above. It is longer than Yiannopoulos’s press conference is likely to be (if it happens), but almost certainly more interesting.
