The live streaming industry has witnessed exponential growth in recent years. This sector primarily caters to audiences seeking real-time content across various domains, including gaming, entertainment, education and live events. Hawk Live, created by Vadym Bychkov, just launched an educational blog for Dota 2 and other cybersports on its platform. The materials posted on the website explain technical game mechanics and contain detailed guides on one of the most popular games in the United States.

Vadym Bychkov, a leader in a software engineering niche, and a new member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers as well as the Association for Computing Machinery, has come a long way in his career journey. When Vadym was young, he knew almost right away that computer science is something he would excel at. Starting from a relatively small project of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, he took his first steps in programming. He then continued on to study Cloud Computing Concepts at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

“I created a content management system by learning backend development in PHP. This became the basis for my future projects. After graduating from the university, I became actively involved in the cybersports community by interacting with professional players, small tournament organizers and betting company employees and owners.

At the university, he focused on in-depth study of information systems, with his first thesis on the creation of an information management system for the distribution of teaching load between departments at the university. During this time, he acquired important skills in working with large databases, their optimization and development of dynamic user interfaces using JavaScript.

“My second thesis was a significant step in my professional development. In it, I worked on the development of a system for monitoring and analyzing seismic activity in high-rise buildings. This project not only allowed me to dive deeper into the complexities of client-server architecture and improve my skills in working with databases and building user interfaces, but also provided me with unique experience in processing and analyzing large amounts of data in real time.” This experience led  to Vadym’s flagship project.

Hawk Live, launched in 2018, is the culmination of Bychkov’s professional journey and the epitome of passion, persuasion and expertise in the field of information technology. The website is designed to bring together players, spectators and businesses by providing free access to real-time cybersport match statistics, news and educational material on the game of Dota 2. A proud and major personal achievement is the project’s wide audience of over 4,000,000 visits from all over the world each month, which emphasizes its importance and influence in the cybersports industry. “I consider my contribution to the cybersports industry to be the impact and change that has occurred through the creation and development of the Hawk Live website. The main thing about Hawk Live is that the platform would bring everyone involved onto one platform to give a new impetus to the industry and especially to the game Dota 2, which became the centerpiece of the project.”

Watching the growing interest of bookmakers and large companies selling gamer paraphernalia encouraged Hawk Live’s further development with Vadym and his team behind the wheel. “I aimed to create a place where every match and every tournament, no matter how big or small, could receive light and attention.” At that time, the only available ways to follow Dota 2 esports matches were live video streaming, the TrackDota website and watching matches directly within the game itself. However, all of these systems had a significant disadvantage — a delay in the broadcast of about five minutes, which markedly reduced the relevance and dynamics of the perception of events. In addition, they were limited to covering only major tournaments, leaving many smaller events unattended.

Hawk Live broke this barrier by offering live scores and stats of Dota 2 matches without delay, allowing fans to follow the game in real time, a development which was a novelty for the industry. After Hawk Live was launched, matches that were previously left without video broadcasts became available to a wider audience. This allowed bookmakers to expand their reach. Due to the increased coverage and availability of information, major market players such as sponsors and investors have become more active in investing in events and teams, seeing the potential for them to reach a wider audience. A platform like Hawk Like has potential to boost the overall investment in the cybersports industry and provide a more stable financial future for a multitude of market players, from tournament organizers to professional players.

Bychkov’s work has led to a better user experience and increased accessibility to cybersports content around the world. “As the founder of Hawk Live, I am confident in the continued growth and development of the project. Through my efforts and innovations, I will continue to support the field of cybersports by enriching the culture and economy of countries, as well as providing new opportunities for the growth and development of talent and tournaments. Hawk Live is more than just a platform, it is a bridge between traditional sports and esports, opening new horizons for players, fans and industry professionals internationally.”

Hawk Live’s contribution to esports demonstrates the power of information technology and its ability to transform industries and communities. Vadym’s main goal is to continue to develop and improve Hawk Live, supporting diversity, inclusion and accessibility in cybersport for all participants around the world.
